My name is Michelle, but you may also know me as The Inky Flower. I'm a watercolour artist who loves to create whimsical and floral pieces of art that capture the beauty of nature.

My inspiration comes from my many walks in the countryside and local woodlands with my faithful companion, Dexter the French Bulldog. I also draw inspiration from my family travels in our trusty VW, Kitty. These experiences have helped shape my artistic style, which is characterised by its simple and playful details.

I've always had a creative streak, but it wasn't until 2015 that I decided to pursue my passion for art more seriously. I enrolled in a Creative Art and Design Degree at Leek School of Art, where I specialised in collagraph printmaking. It was here that I developed a love for printmaking, but it was when the pandemic hit in 2020 that I discovered a new love for painting.

During the first lockdown, I had a bit of a mishap and ended up breaking my leg on a walk. As you can imagine, being stuck at home was tough, and I was really missing my walking boots and long walks in the countryside.

That's when I decided to give watercolours a try, and I fell head over heels in love with the freedom it brought me! Unlike printmaking, which can be a bit of a process, painting gave me immediate and satisfying results. It became my therapy, and I found so much joy in the creative process - from drawing out an idea to adding layers and mixing colours. And the best part? I could do it all while home-schooling and keeping my furry companion entertained! To add some extra movement and interest to my pieces, I love adding little inky flourishes with my trusty Lamy Ink pen or a number of dip pens with varying line weights to add interest and movement to the overall image.

Since then, I've been developing my craft and creating beautiful whimsical pieces of art that capture the essence of nature's beauty that swirls around in my mind. My artwork is characterised by its simple and whimsical details, with each stroke of the brush bringing my images to life.

In addition to my passion for art, I enjoy going away in the VW and travelling around the UK, love local wildlife, and good food. I draw inspiration from the places I've visited, and the wildlife I've encountered. These experiences are reflected in my artwork, creating pieces that are not only beautiful but also simple and joyful.
